Donald Trump Jr’s wife, Vanessa Trump, was immediately taken to hospital Monday February 12th after receiving a suspect letter containing a white powder. The powder was later deemed to be of a non-hazardous nature, New York city police revealed.
The president’s daughter-in-law opened the letter which was addressed to her husband shortly after 10 a.m. at their Manhattan residence. It is still unclear what exactly the “white powder” was, but the authorities have performed test’s and revealed it to be non-hazardous and some type of flour.
Vanessa was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure, police said. Two other people were also present in the room at the time and were treated for possible exposure to the unknown substance.
The room was decontaminated by a hazmat crew shortly after the incident took place.
Trump Jr. tweeted of the “scary situation” on Monday afternoon, and blamed the incident on people with “opposing views.”
“Thankful that Vanessa & my children are safe and unharmed after the incredibly scary situation that occurred this morning,” Trump Jr. said. “Truly disgusting that certain individuals choose to express their opposing views with such disturbing behavior.”
Trump Jr. is the eldest son of the president. He married his wife Vanessa in 2005. They now have a family of five children, it is unclear if any of the children were home when the incident took place.
The matter is now being investigated by the police and Secret Service.
The U.S. Secret Service said in a statement: “The Secret Service and our law enforcement partners in New York City are investigating a suspicious package addressed to one of our protectees received today in New York, New York. This is an active investigation and we cannot comment any further.”
Ivanka Trump, Vanessa’s sister-in-law, tweeted Monday afternoon, “No one deserves to be frightened this way. There is no excuse.”
Trump Jr. got rid of his Secret Service detail back in September, reportedly because he wanted to have more privacy in his life. This lasted for only a week before the detail were reactivated.
Thankfully Vanessa and her family are safe and the substance was not dangerous.
