Dogs are one of the most loyal pets anyone can have, staying by their owner’s side through thick and thin.
Dogs show a great loyalty to their owners and their families, and have often been found laying next to small children who have wandered off or got lost.
They has also been found by their deceased owners sides mourning their loss.
Sadie was no different to these dogs. The border collie-dalmation-sheperd cross was adopted 13 years ago by her human parents when she was only eight weeks old.
Tragedy struck the tight knit family one day, when her human dad suddenly passed away, an event that truly devastated her.
Her human mum Julia Beaulie described how when the emergency workers stopped trying to revive her husband, Sadie approached his body, laid down beside him and nudge his hand with her nose.
It was not only Julia who struggled to cope with the loss of her husband, but Sadie also felt the void left with her owners unexpected passing.
She would always wait by the window every day, waiting for him to return home from work like he always did.
Sadie’s mourning even led to her going off her food for almost 10 days and nearly loosing 10 pounds. Julia decided that for her husbands memorial service, their beloved pet Sadie would be in attendance.
She believed that it was only right for Sadie to say goodbye to her lifelong friend in person. At the visitation, Sadie approached the casket with Julia, stoop up on her back legs and peered into the coffin. Then Sadie visibly relaxed and remained by her mom’s side.
Jeremy May of Elements Cremation, who arranged the memorial service, said that pets regarded by many as being part of the family and so, more and more people are bringing their pets to visitations and other services. They decided to take a photo the heartfelt moment and shared it to demonstrate how close a bond between humans and dogs can be.
“This photo has touched us so deeply at Elements Cremation, Pre-planning & Burial, and we and the family want to share it with you. This photograph captures a special moment between a man, his wife and their best friend. She had recently lost her dear husband to a sudden heart attack and wanted to see him one last time to say goodbye … After the death, she showed signs of depression, would not eat and waited for him to come home every day. The wife believed that Sadie could also benefit from saying goodbye and getting closure herself, and she was right!”
When they had returned home from the memorial service, Sadie went inside the front door of the house and ate her first meal in a long time. Perhaps being able to see her human dad that she loved so much just one last time, gave her the closure she needed.
What a sad yet very beautiful story that Julia and Elements Cremation have shared with us. We hope that one day Sadie will be reunited with her owner in the future.
