The majority of people who have been on holiday before will have tried a relaxing massage.
This is especially true if you visit countries like Thailand, where it’s commonplace to get massages and beauty treatments at relatively reduced rates.
However, after reading this story it might be a good idea to ask what sort of massage is being offered in advance.
Failure to do so, as one Australian tourist was left with massive red marks across his back after he ordered what he thought was a relaxing massage
Bali is quite a popular destination for tourists all over the globe. It’s a relaxing paradise where the cost of living is extremely cheap.
Candise Raison and her husband Matthew, from South Australia, were in Bali and on the sixth day they decided to treat themselves to a nice massage.
In actual fact what they thought would be a relaxing therapy it turned out to be an entirely different experience. The following morning Matthew was horrified to discover huge red stripes spanning across his back.
His wife, Candise Raison explains that the couple had decided to order a massage via an app. This service meant the masseuse came to the customer as they were too tired to head out.
Once it was Matthew’s turn, the masseuse asked if he wanted to “get the red dragon out of him”.
Not entirely certain what the masseuse wanted to do, the couple assumed it was possibly “some prayer thing”.
“I don’t know what you’re saying but my husband will try anything, go for it!” Candise replied.
Candice does on to describe how the woman began to carve her husband’s body with a coin, explaining that tomorrow there would be a “red dragon”.
This particular type of ancient treatment, known as ‘Gua Sha’ is designed to release impurities from muscle tissue.
Practitioners achieve this by using stones or the side of coins to scrape the skin on a person’s back. It quite often leaves hideous red stripes on the body.
The next day, Matthew’s back was completely covered in these stripes, from the top of his neck down to his tailbone.
Despite the shock of it all, however, Matthew was able to smile. “Fair to say we were all in tears of laughter,” Candise said.
Apparently, this old method has, in fact, had a positive impact on resolving Matt’s chronic back pain.
Mr. Raison has worked with heavy power lines for the previous three years, bringing about his back difficulties. “He hasn’t complained about a sore back since!” Candise revealed.
The coin didn’t actually break through the skin, despite the marks being blood red. It took almost five days after the massage for Matthew’s back to return to normal. “The marks are still slightly there but almost non-existent.”
