When Hannah Mongie discovered that she was expecting a baby boy at only 18 years of age, she was overjoyed. However, her joy was short lived, when devastating news ripped her growing family apart.
Hannah’s boyfriend and father to be, Kaden, had died in his sleep only days after hearing their child’s heartbeat at the eight-week prenatal scan.
Hanna was now faced with having to make the heart breaking decision to place their baby up for adoption after Kaden’s sudden death.
Even though she knew that their son Tagg was her “last piece of Kaden,” she explained how she woke up one morning with an unexplainable feeling: that the baby was meant to be with somebody else.
Hannah travelled to Provo, Utah on March 21, 2016 to give Tagg to his new adoptive family. She would spent two days with Tagg and the family before leaving him with his new parents.
Her journey would however take an unexpected and heartwarming turn. An arrangement was made between Hannah and the adoptive parents for an open adoption, which meant Hannah would get to see Tagg every month. Amazingly, with the adoptive family only living 10 minutes away from Hannah, she built up a great relationship with Emily, Tagg’s adoptive mother.
“Rather than ‘giving him up’ or ‘away,’ I just adopted his entire family into mine. Including his extended family,” Hannah told KTVU. “We just grew, and everyone loves each other as if we’ve always been family. His mom Emily is still one of my best friends in the whole world. She honestly is everything I want to be as a person and a mother. I am so grateful that Tagg led me to her and their family.”
Hannah recorded a very special message for her little boy before she finally said her final goodbye to him.
She made the recording after his birth during the intimate times she had with her little baby boy. “I hope anyone who watches this will be able to gain a new perspective on what the birth mom goes through when she places her child for adoption,” she wrote on YouTube. “It is the FARTHEST thing from a heartless act. It shows the definition of love.
To love someone this much is to give away your happiness for them.”
Two years later, Hannah decided to share her intimate recording on Youtube. The video went viral in a matter of hours and has amassed almost 1.5 million views so far.
