Daycare centers are a place where parents can leave children in a safe environment, knowing no harm will come to them.
That’s what one would expect, the young mother in this story had a horrific experience as she went to retrieve her child having left her for the day.
Jessica Hayes, of North Carolina, USA, picked up one-year-old daughter Addison from daycare, she immediately spotted something was wrong.
Addison’s feet swollen and there were red welts around the 17-month-old baby’s joints.
Addison had learned to take off her shoes and was repeatedly doing it during daycare.
Two of the carers decided to tape them to her feet so they fastened the tape tightly where it left bruises and red marks around her ankles.
Jessica was so shocked by the behavior that she made a public post on Facebook after she picked up her daughter.
She wrote, “Someone was clearly upset that she was learning to take her shoes off and done it out of being aggravated.”
“This was also not just her shoes being taped up it was around her ankle, my 17-month-old child was unable to say anything,” she concluded.
Many supported Jessica after her post, but she was also criticised for expressing her anger on social media.
Comments included such as: “Why so angry? Look at the pictures you posted. The shoes are too big and the little one probably kept losing them. What should (they) do? Buy her a pair of shoes that fit.”
We would always encourage people to report similar incidents to this, as to make other people aware of potential dangers despite Jessica receiving some responses that disagreed with her.
As a result of her Facebook post, it led to a direct apology from the day care center’s director, who fired the two workers responsible.
The power of social media can be a positive factor.
Help us spread the word to make sure no other children suffer like this by sharing this post with others.
